The Outdated Suburb

My suburb is pretty old. It’s definitely not the oldest suburb in Melbourne, but it is one that has a lot of tradition. Many of the homes in the area are either heritage listed, were built by history buffs nostalgic for the good old days, or are owned by holidaymakers who see no need to update their charming little beach cottages. I’ve always hesitated to renovate my own house for this very reason. My architectural tastes are very modern, and I wouldn’t want my house to stick out too much when compared to the other houses on my street. Most of them are brown brick and have traditional roof tiles, so I feel like the neighbours wouldn’t take well to my proposed white marble, minimalistic box.

I’m hoping that I’ll be able to seek advice from some modern architectural home builders. As experts in their field, it’s their job to remain cognizant of building codes, and to help ensure any renovations I complete will not overstep legal boundaries. I’m also planning to confide in them about my worries about building a modern home in the area. I trust that they will have enough experience to create the perfect design for me – one that features everything I need in a house and fits my own modern aesthetic, but also one that works well with the rest of the architecture in the area. My friend told me that the company I’m thinking of hiring is one of the best custom contemporary style home designers on the Mornington Peninsula. I definitely trust this friend’s opinion, as their own house was designed so well that it was actually nominated for an award last year.

I have so many cool ideas I hope we’ll be able to incorporate! An updated bathroom fit for a king, a dining room big enough for several dozen people, and technology that connects every appliance – including the garage. Fingers crossed the architects approve all my ideas!
